Sloe gin recipes from SLOEmotion
Jonathan Curtoys of SLOEmotion offers a few favourite tips on enjoying sloe gin and sloe brandy in festive cocktails and a spiced apple dessert.
Sloe Fizz
Reminiscent of a classic Champagne cocktail but better: add chilled champagne or sparkling wine to approximately a measure (25ml) of Sloemotion Sloe Brandy.
Sloe Royale
Colloquially known as a Sloegasm: add chilled English sparkling wine to approximately a measure (25ml) of Sloemotion Sloe Gin
Try this decadently drunken dessert recipe for a warming taste of the hedgerow.
Apples in Sloe Gin Syrup
Ingredients
- 200g caster sugar
- 400ml water
- 6 apples
- 1 small, sweet tangerine
- half a cinnamon stick
- 10 coriander seeds
- 3 tablespoons blackberry jelly
- 150ml SLOEmotion Sloe Gin
Put the caster sugar in a saucepan, pour in the water and bring to the boil. Peel the apples, core them but leave them whole. Lower the apples into the boiling syrup, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.
Peel three strips of zest from the tangerine, then drop into the syrup with the cinnamon stick and coriander seeds. Stir in the fruit jelly then add the sloe gin and cook for 15-30 minutes, depending on the apple size, until tender.
Watch the apples carefully so that they do not get too soft. Serve warm with freshly whipped cream.
